Developed in the 1923–1924 period by František Horáček, the Cesky Terrier's creation was a deliberate effort to produce a hardy, resilient companion dog. Horáček aimed to combine the desirable traits of several breeds, including the Yorkshire Terrier, Sealyham Terrier, Norwich Terrier, and St. John’s Terrier. The goal was to create a dog that was robust enough to withstand the rigors of rural life while retaining a sweet and affectionate temperament. The resulting breed was initially known as the 'Bohemian Terrier' before being officially renamed to Cesky Terrier.

Appearance

Cesky Terriers are small dogs, typically standing between 10 to 12 inches tall and weighing between 13 to 21 pounds. Their most striking feature is their long, flowing, shaggy coat, which falls to the ground, partially concealing their body. The coat is a distinctive combination of black and tan, with the black predominating. Puppies are born entirely black, with the tan markings developing as they mature.
